Introduction
The Independence Parks and Recreation hosts table tennis in the gym / auditorium at the Truman Memorial Building.
There are a variety of days/times available including both open play and league play.

- Wed. 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm (starting 5/5/21)
Open Play Cost
- Independence Parks and Rec Membership – $10.00 / year
- Mon – Thurs. Daily Play – $1.00
- Wed. Evening Play – $5.00
NOTE: In order to play during the Mon – Thurs. times, you must have a membership to the Independence Community Center. You can purchase this from the front desk of the facility for $10.00/mo or $25.00/year.

COVID-19 – Masks
The Truman Memorial Building follows the Independence City mandate, which no longer requires a mask to be worn by vaccinated individuals.
Lighting has been upgraded with LEDs to provide excellent lighting.

I’m probably a mid range player. Looking to join up with others to play… Is it hard to get on a table here? What skill level is everyone at? A bunch of pros looking for fresh meat?
Hi Brandon,
No it’s not hard to get a table. It’s open play, and we typically do a simple “challenge” where you place your paddle down next to a table to claim a match against the winner. Everybody is friendly, so it’s not something that you need to worry about.
There are skill levels of all kinds. I think you’ll have fun. There should be some people at your level you can compete with, and others you can play with to get a feel for what this game is like when you advance through the levels. 🙂

I’d like to join the league, but will be gone several weeks (particularly in July). Is that a problem if I’m not there?
No, it’s no problem if you can’t attend any given week. You just won’t get any results for that week, of course.
What’s the average attendance on Wednesday evenings?
We’ve had about 30 players showing up, but most of them are playing in the league right now, and the majority of the tables are occupied by the league. You can still sign up for the league, though, if you want to get in on the action!
Will another league start up in August once the current one finishes?
Yes, but it may be at the KC (Grandview) location instead of Independence. Would that affect your ability to attend?
No, either location would work for me.
